Sharks are coming off their first home win (since LAST January) that the opponent scored first.  And their first win over former Shark Niemi since he was traded.

But now they face the Senators, who grabbed the points in a game against the Kings on Saturday.  And would like to sweep the season series over the Sharks.

Sharks fought the Oilers in a very defensive game, but prevailed in the shootout where Pavelski and Donskoi scored, but Jones let nothing in. The first time this season they’ve had a home win streak; four win streak on the line Saturday.  With 3 games in four days, the guys got an unscheduled day off Friday.

Now the Stars come ‘avisitin’. They were in Anaheim Friday night and had a frightening 4-2 loss with Lehtonen in net.  So that may mean that Niemi gets to defend the blue paint for the Stars against the Sharks.

With a healthy team, the Sharks are starting to “fire on all cylinders” now.  Missing key pieces in the first half of the season did not allow DeBoer to put players in positions to succeed, but moreso to stem the hemorrhaging.

Sharks pushed ahead through some power plays to take a commanding lead, then hang on while the Flames were unable to tie it up in regulation.  Another two-game road trip with 100% of the points in the bank.

With the Sharks’ 41st game in the books, Raffi Torres has finished his suspension.  Zubrus was put on IR so Torres could be put on the NHL active roster. Torres was then assigned to the AHL Barracuda on a conditioning stint and could make his season debut in the midwest as the Barracuda finish up a 3-game road trip in Rockford, IL and Des Moines, Iowa this week.  (Next Barracuda home game is 1/18 in the afternoon, followed by a Sharks game that evening.)

Now, the Sharks former coach comes to SAP Center for the first time this season. Edmonton is sitting last in the division and conference, with 38 points. Wünderkind Connor McDavid and Oscar Klefbom are on the IR and won’t be back until after the ASG.  Nail Yakupov could return Thursday from a sprained ankle.  But the Oilers have not fully “turned things around” to go from pretender to contender status in the league.

The Sharks are currently 3rd in the division, with 44 points, in 41 games; they have games in hand on every team in the league but two.  So the Sharks need to win those in-hand games to rise up the standings.

Guessing it may be Jones in net for the Sharks.

Sharks had a pretty good 59:45 in Monday’s game (excluding that 15 seconds when they gave up two on the PP).  But a win is a win.

On to (extremely cold) Winnipeg.  Sharks would love to give the Jets’ a losing streak, and add to their win streak.  They also would like some redemption after the egg they laid hosting the Jets recently.

Hellebuyck starting for Jets.  Stalock may be in nets for Sharks.

Sharks decimated the Leafs on Saturday, winning 7-0.

Now they head out on the road for a couple before their next home game on Thursday.

Jones is scheduled to start for the Sharks.  Marleau will play in his 500th consecutive start.

Today, Robin Regehr retired from hockey as a Calgary Flame, signing a symbolic contract to do so. Ramo scheduled to start for the Flames.

Note: This game starts at 4pm PT.

Sharks again lost at home after giving up the first goal, falling to 5-12 at home (worst in the league).  There was a strong push in the third that nearly tied it, but Mzarek wasn’t letting anything through after Ward’s goal.  Frustrations even boiled over after the game.  They are still looking for their first win of 2016.

Sharks recalled Tierney on Friday; Zubrus may miss Saturday’s game.  DeBoer mixed up the lines at Friday’s practice, looking for more offense.

Sharks are giving away a Ricci mini locker at the game.

If the Sharks lose Saturday and Edmonton wins, they’ll be at the bottom of the division standings (and conference, league). The Sharks do have games in hand on the other teams; but will/can they win to take advantage of that?

Maple Leafs, under head coach Babcock, lost to the Kings on Thursday, so will be looking for a second win in California Saturday night/afternoon to salvage their Golden State swing. Bernier starting for Leafs.

Who will start for the Sharks?  Put Stalock in to give him some rhythm to add to his recent two wins in the AHL or give Jones another start after giving up two in Thursday’s game?  (With back-to-backs on the road Monday and Tuesday, it may be that both will get one of those games as starter.)

Sharks played horrendously.  No confidence, etc.  Let’s see what a few days of practice do to change the play and mood.

Meanwhile…. Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski have been named to the Pacific Division All Star roster.  Matt Tennyson has been recalled from the Barracuda.  Chris Tierney and Al Stalock (conditioning stint) were assigned to the Barracuda after Saturday’s game.  Stalock got to play two games and got two wins before being recalled Thursday morning.

Red Wings come to the Tank, for their only game of the regular season.  (I’m expecting 10%+ of fans present to be wearing DRW gear.)  This is the second game of a six-game road trip. Wings looking for third straight win. Mzarek scheduled to start.

Jones is the scheduled starter for the Sharks.

With a 5-10 home record in the first three months of the season, the Sharks hope to improve that on their current home stand, with their first three games of 2016.

Jets are coming to San Jose as the second stop on their five game road trip (longest of the season). Trip started with 2-4 loss in Arizona, their sixth straight road loss. Coach Maurice is looking for answers.

Sharks have had two days off and don’t play next until Thursday, so the bench could get real short if the team gets behind. Sharks are hoping a healthy roster will allow players to slot in where they can play best (and win games).

Update: Jones vs Hellebuyck (starting goalies)

PK was horrible on Monday — four goals given up (most since 1997!).  A team is not going to win if it gives up that many PP in this age.  Sigh.  Sharks are 4-10 at home this season.

Now on to the next opponent.  It looks like Couture **might** be ready to get back into play.

Flyers are looking to avoid a second loss to the Sharks this season, and avoid back-to-back losses (they lost 2-4 to Ducks on Sunday). After clearing waivers, Gagner has been assigned to AHL and Streit has been activated from IR. Del Zotto missed Sunday’s game due to injury; questionable for game.

Sharks scored 4 unanswered goals, including three in the third, to win in LA 5-3 before the break.  Pavelski had two goals, and an assist. Burns and Thornton each had a goal and an assist.  Jones gave up a couple of goals early in the game, but got stronger, and the D kept the puck out of the zone more as well.

Sharks then had five days before this game.  Practice on 12/26 and 12/27 before getting back at it in a double header 12/28. Couture and Ward have returned to practice, but Couture is still out.

The Avs hosted the Coyotes Sunday (losing in OT), before heading to San Jose. MacKinnon has been on a goal drought and lost his “Nine Line” wingers. Iginla scored his 599th goal. Avs are wary of new captain Pavelski, who seems to come up big against them.
