Rookie scrimmages 150912 and 150913 — Ducks @ Sharks

Sharks host the Ducks in a pair of scrimmages this weekend.  (Games have nominally been two periods of 30-minute running clock. Instead, it was a full 60 minute game, with 3 ice-cleaning stops/period.)

This is a chance for the prospects to impress their prospective NHL head coaches, scouts, and fans, and to play against rivals rather than teammates.

Six of the players are tryouts, plus one unsigned, previously-drafted player. Six players are undrafted signees, one a trade acquisition.  The remaining eleven are drafted players, including the first round picks from 2014 (Goldobin) and 2015 (Meier).  No player has more than 10 AHL games.

Recap 150912

My notes: Rumpel played the full game, making some nice fast stops.  Ryan wore the C.

D pairings (not reflecting which side players play):  63-64, 76-81, 51-47

Lines (not reflecting forward positions): 56-79-72, 53-52-28, 60-27-82 (top line – scored all the goals), 95-96-76

Donskoi was the best skater out there, and he’s still getting used to the smaller ice. Definite candidate for NHL roster spot to start the season.

Power Play was ineffective, but Penalty Kill was strong (opening the scoring with SHG).

Sharks dominated first and third; Ducks the second.

Bergman “tweaked something” in 1st period, and did not return to play.  Sommer hopeful, it’s just a minor issue. (Per Merc’s Pashelka)

New goal song was debuted
