150329 – postgame Sharks @ Penguins

Pregame news/links

Sharks manage to get one point to end up with a 3-3-1 record on this road trip.  But they were not able to get more than one past the #2 PK, even with a number of advantages, including a double minor in OT; and got no goals behind Fluery in the shootout.

Niemi expected to start. Mueller out, Vlasic out, Hannan may be in lineup (someone(s) getting recalled for this game).  Fluery expected to start for the Penguins (after Greiss started Saturday).

UPDATE : Stalock announces he’s starting tonight. (Niemi a bit under the weather.) Fedun recalled.

Pittsburgh’s Letang was sent to the hospital after being hit into the boards by Coyotes’ Doan; overnight stay.  (Have to think he’s doutbful for Sunday’s game.) Malkin returned from injury Saturday. Update – Letang out with concussion.

And a bit of a recap of Saturday’s matinee: Sharks lost two D through the course of the game (I’m expecting some recalls for Sunday). But the team prevailed in the SO to win.

150309 – postgame Penguins @ Sharks

So, Sidney Crosby finally scored against the Sharks.  But Matt Nieto got one behind Fleury prior to that, and Tommy Wingels scored the game deciding goal in the shootout to send the large crowd of Penguins fans (who at time drowned out the Sharks chants), with a frown, and the Sharks fans with smiles and hope that they can still make the playoffs.

Sharks stayed off the ice on Tuesday.

Sharks had an optional practice after their Saturday loss.  Pittsburgh beat the Kings 1-0 in OT and took Sunday off.

Did you know? The Penguins Crosby has never scored a goal in San Jose.

Penguins last won in San Jose in 1997.

And in a minor deal, AHL Worcester acquires forward Vincent Arseneau from AHL Manchester for future considerations.
