On Sunday afternoon, nearly the entire camp (staff and players) headed to Canada. On Monday, part of the group will participate in the 2015 Canada Kraft Hockeyville game (televised locally on CSN-California; nationally on NHL Network, Rogers in Canada). The group will stay in Canada for a game Tuesday in Vancouver at Rogers Place. DeBoer indicated that some players would participate in both games. But as of Sunday night, no list of which players went to Canada, nor who will be playing, has been released.
This game is a celebration of grass roots hockey. Locals who have gone on to hockey stardom include the Benn brothers.
While the team will have an opportunity to enjoy the small (attendance-wise) rink, they can be reminded of the fun they had in their (small) home town rink as they play. But on the serious side, this is an opportunity for players to impress the coaches and scouts to position themselves for the hockey season, on the NHL roster, etc.
First of seven preseason games. First of four road/away preseason games.
Sharks reporting via Twitter lines will be Hertl-Tierney-Wingels, Nieto-Smith-Goodrow, Goldobin-Carpenter-Meier, Sadowy-Lerg-Brown. D pairs Dillon-Tennyson, Mueller-DeMello, Young-Roy. Grosenick starting, backed up by Dell.
RECAP: Grosenick played the first half of the game, replaced by Dell. Neither goalie gave up a goal in regulation. It was tied 0-0 after regulation, so we saw the first 3×3 OT. A few shifts in and the Canucks scored. Wingels and Dillon wore As; Wingels took the ceremonial faceoff.
It seemed like there was a missing gear offensively, but the Hertl-Tierney-Wingels seemed to work well. Dillon-Tennyson was a responsible pair.
The team seemed to relish the excitement of the Hockeyville celebration, including those who did not play (many watched the game from suites).
Technical notes – first period there was no game clock on the TV. Just the basic stats of total SOG I’ve been able to find. Nothing else.
