John Scott was suspended by the NHL for two games from Sunday’s game.  Tyler Kennedy was assigned to Worcester for LTIR conditioning stint.

This game will be the first that the two McGinn brothers will play against each other (at any level), excluding games on family rink.  Looks to be Niemi starting for the Sharks.

141026 – Sharks @ Ducks (postgame)

My, my, my, my, my!  The Sharks and Ducks really do not like each other.  Sharks had a commanding 4-0 lead, when every whistle included tussles and fights.

But the Sharks ended their losing streak.  And Burns continues his scoring (and potential Norris candidacy).

Pregame notes

Sharks were great at giving away the puck, and managed one goal.

But Sabres took that puck and netted two goals in the 3rd.

All scoring took place in about two and a half minutes of the third.

And the Sharks sell out streak ended.

At Sharks practice on Friday, John Scott dressed as a defenseman, and both Barclay Goodrow and Tyler Kennedy were in teal (not non-impact orange); Jason Demers did not skate. Sharks assigned Eriah Hayes to Worcester. Stalock expected to start.

Sharks have lost three in a row (to Eastern Conference teams), and now face another.  Sharks have not won against Buffalo in San Jose since 2010!  Meanwhile, Sabres are finishing up their California death march, and looking for a little respectability to break a three game losing streak of their own.

Someone’s gonna break their slump.

141023 – Blue Jackets @ Sharks postgame

Pregames notes

Sharks owned the first period.  Jackets the second.  But it was a late goal that lost the game for the Sharks in the third (and the short handed goal against, etc.).

McLellan highlighted the poor defense.  And players the mental issues.

Needs to be fixed, or there won’t be a post season.

So, while the cat’s away the mice will play?  As the Sharks finish up their road trip Tuesday in Boston, the Jackets flew to California on Monday for some team bonding before Thursday’s game.

Sharks got the day off Wednesday after returning from road trip.  There was some concern expressed in the Boston postgame analysis in that Couture only took one faceoff in the game (linemate Marleau took the rest in the game when line was out for faceoffs).  Sheppard looked good in his season debut. Stalock should be up in the goalie rotation.

But it’s Niemi in nets tonight (first home start).

Pregame notes

Too long a road trip? Did the team just go through the motions to finish up the trip and get home?

There were leads traded, multiple times, but the Sharks could not score on a late double minor power play instead giving up an empty net short handed goal.

141021 – Sharks @ Bruins 4pm PT

(Will be writing about trip to NYI, NJD, NYR in the future, but for now, back to the games)

Sharks are wrapping up their first long road trip of the season.  (They’ll have Wednesday off before home game on Thursday.) So far 2-1-1.

Sharks got the day off on Monday after their first back-to-back of the season (with definite lack of energy as the game wore on), and their first regulation loss in Manhattan.

Boston is coming off a shut out win Saturday (career first for Svedberg), but lost Miller with shoulder injury.

Niemi starting for the Sharks.  James Sheppard recalled from conditioning stint in Worcester and will make season debut tonight. McLellan shuffles the lines/pairings; Mueller and McGinn expected to sit tonight.
