150119 – postgame Devils @ Sharks

Pregame news/links

Sharks did score first, but not enough so that the Devils won (will all the ex-Sharks scoring or assisting).

And Justin Braun and Tommy Wingels were injured.  (And put on IR Tuesday.)

New Jersey last played on Friday. They had the day off on Saturday, but were back at it on Sunday.

Sharks had a full practice on Sunday.

Devils would like to get back the points they gave up to the Sharks in October.

Schneider took a hit to the head on Friday in Anaheim, but is good to go for Monday’s game.

Stalock looks like he might get the start Monday for the Sharks.

150117 – postgame Flames @ Sharks

Pregame news/links

So, the Sharks did solve Ortio better than any other team this season, getting three past him; but Marleau’s breakaway save could have been the deciding goal.

Instead, the Flames took a fast lead, scoring on their first shot of the game, notched a shortie, and the Sharks had to catch up then take the lead, and give up the tying goal in the third, and lost in early OT.

Couture was told that his cracked teeth were a result of him diving, or a teammate’s stick, so not a penalty.  (Really?  I mean REALLY?)

Friday was an optional practice for the Sharks.  (Torres did skate before practice. Mueller joined in late practice.) With an emphasis on fun.

Flames won 4-1 over Arizona on Thursday.

Neither team will be able to have morning skate at SAP Center as the Harlem Globetrotters have a matinee performance.  (But practice will be closed to public.) HNIC always inspires the Canadian players.

Ortio expected to start for Flames; two wins, one goal against since recall.  (He’s been named to AHL ASG roster.)

Niemi starting; Desjardins out of the line up (again) with fourth line staying intact.

150115 – postgame Maple Leafs @ Sharks

Pregame news/links

Not a dominant game, but the Sharks pulled it out.  Leafs have definitely improved the defensive side of their game.

Leafs are up next. On Monday, they faced the Kings (0-2 loss); Wednesday, the Ducks (Bernier started 4th straight; 0-4 loss). So, the Sharks are the rested team.

With the Leafs and Flames on the schedule for Thursday and Saturday, many of the players dads are staying around for these two games.

On Wednesday, the Epix cameras were again in SJ (mainly one-on-one interviews). They’ll be back next week for the 1/21 game against the Kings, and sticking around after the ASG break until the Stadium Series game.  (First episode, of four, scheduled to debut 2/3 7pm PT.)

Sounds like Bernier may get his fifth straight start for the Leafs.  My guess on the Sharks starter is Niemi (again).

Sharks are trying to avoid fourth straight home loss as they begin seven game home stand (spanning ASG). Leafs may be just looking for some consistency (and not a shutout).

Still unclear on Leafs’ starter as they skipped morning skate.  Check twitter feeds for update.

And the boys did their dads proud.

It was a back-and-forth game, but the Sharks succeeded in notching the final lead.

Sharks players and their dads are in Arizona for Tuesday’s game.  Historically, the “father’s trip” has resulted in some good games and some horrendous games (including the “Coyote Ugly” game where GM Doug Wilson lambasted the players in the bus for 20 minutes while the dads got on the plane). From this, it’s impossible to categorize how the guys will play.

Meanwhile, in the desert, the Coyotes have not been playing well at all, dwelling near the bottom of the division, conference and league. Rumors abound regarding just about every player on the roster.

The Sharks played well (definite room for improvement) against St Louis, and here’s they’re chance to prove it.

Dubnyk vs Niemi.  Desjardins back in SJ with wife (on baby watch). Arizona’s Hanzal, Gormley out; Michalek in.
