Sharks had the second successful coach’s challenge this year against Chicago, denying former Shark Mashinter the only puck that got past Jones. Jones had 33 saves for his shutout win.  Marleau scored the first (and game winning) goal, with Thornton getting the insurance ENG. 2-2 on four game road trip is much nicer than 1-3.  That was the first game a healthy Sharks lineup faced the Hawks this season, but Dillon left the game after two shifts in the first period with an upper body injury and did not return.

Meanwhile, in Calgary, three top players were late to practice on Monday, so were scratches for Tuesday’s game, a 4-3 victory with 11 F and 7 D dressed. On Wednesday, the three sheepishly apologized. They have another distraction on Wednesday, with Wideman facing Bettman for his appeal of the 20-game suspension for cross checking linesman (appeal decision could take a while). This is the start of the Flames’ Dad’s trip for the season.

The Sharks PK has been successful 16 of the last 17 man disadvantages.

Update: Stalock in net for Sharks.  Dillon out; Tennyson in.  Mueller recalled.

Sharks played OK in Nashville, but Jones could not keep the put out of the net.  2-6. Thornton notched his 200th goal with the Sharks; Couture had the other.  Both were PPGs. In his 400th game, Couture, had a goal and assist for his 300th points.

Crawford starting for Hawks. Hawks return home for four-game homestand, looking to sweep Sharks for season series. Kruger out for rest of (regular) season with wrist injury.

Sharks and Blues were without a goal in the first, but the Sharks scored two in the second, and an insurance goal in the third, to take the game 3-1. Shot blocking mentioned as one of the reasons the Sharks won.

Sharks continue their road trip in Nashville. This is their second meeting of the season; the Sharks fell 1-2 at SAP Center earlier this season.

Nashville is looking for their first home victory of the month and have lost their first two games of the month, including giving up six goals to Philadelphia on Thursday (defense, more than goal tender was blamed).  Ribeiro will be playing his 1000th game.  Rinne is 9-5-4 in his career against the Sharks. They’ve tried many combinations but have not found a good option for left win on the top line.

My guess is that it’ll be Jones vs Rinne.

Sharks lost a one goal game, breaking their point streak and winning streak.  But the rust should be off and the desire turned up for their next game.

They’re traveling into St Louis, for their first trip this season.  (And the second, and final, trip of the season is later this month.)

The Blues won in Nashville (1-0) on Tuesday.  Schwartz continues to rehab from broken ankle, but won’t be available for Thursday’s game.  Paajarvi returned to play on Tuesday. G Elliot has been playing in the zone.

Guessing it’ll be Jones vs Elliot.

Sharks had a late afternoon practice Monday in San Jose (the only week-day practice of the month) before flying to Anaheim.  (Burns participated; Pavelski did not.)

Ducks will be without Horcoff, suspended for 20 games. Fowler is hoping to return from knee injury and Depres could be returning from concussion. Ducks are 3-0-0 in recent games; starting with the Sharks, the Ducks play three straight against divisional opponents, all above them in standings. LW Zolnierczyk has been recalled from AHL San Diego.

It’ll be Anderson vs Jones in the battle from the nets. And Fowler will be in the line up.  Looks like Zubrus will be in and Brown out (on the 4th line).

Sharks vs Avalanche 160126 – recap

That was nice.  Sharks rolled through the Avs 6-1.

Pickard, fighting the flu, managed to play two periods, giving up 4 goals.  Rookie Roman Will made his NHL debut and played (part of) the third period, giving up one goal.  And crazy coach Patrick Roy was pulling his goalie late in the 2nd period, and 15 minutes left in the 3rd trying to tie it up.  (Sharks did get one ENG.)

But there were some defensive break downs and sloppy play with the big lead.

Now Burns and Pavelski travel to Nashville for the ASG.  The rest of the team is off until Monday, with a late afternoon practice before heading out on the road for a game Tuesday.

Sharks played well, but Kings pushed to tie the game late in the third, and scored in OT.

The Avs are coming off their fourth win Saturday night.  Varlamov was named #1 star of the week, but Pickard is expected to be in nets on Tuesday. Skille crashed into the boards Saturday, but is expected to play Tuesday.

Optional practice for Sharks on Monday: Stalock, Tennyson, Zubrus and Brown were the only players on the ice.  Due to that I’m thinking that Jones will start.

Update:  Jones scheduled to start.  Zubrus in; Brown out.

Pickard and two skaters skipped morning skate due to illness.  Will has been recalled to backup Pickard (with Varlamov out), but might have to start.  Perhaps Roy would be signed as an emergency backup goalie?

Sharks extend their point streak to 8 games with win over the Wild from a late goal by the captain to break the tie.

Kings are coming off a one-goal loss to the Coyotes.  But they may be without  Lucic tonight who was ejected from last night’s game for a sucker punch to the head (and/or might be suspended for abuse of official); he has a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety this afternoon.

With back-to-back games, I’m thinking there may not be any morning skate.  Jones may start.

Former Sharks on opponent: Charlie Coyle (draft pick)

Sharks took the first game against the Coyotes this season 3-1.  Strong play by the visiting team (making their dads’ proud as they watched on) and lack of offense from the home team.

First of a double header weekend, with military honoring, with Saturday matinee and Sunday evening games.

The Wild are coming off a 3-0 win over the Kings.

Sharks had a couple of mental errors, were burned by a (bad) goal review, and lost in the shootout to the Senators. Win streak ended.

After a day off the ice, and an evening celebrating the team’s 25 years, it’s back to business and heading off to the desert for the first meeting of the season between the Sharks and the Coyotes, with the dads (or brothers).  Ben Smith was put on waivers Wednesday and with either report to his new team, or the AHL Barracuda; that move was made so that Zubrus could be activated from the IR for the game.  (Torres is still on conditioning stint in the AHL, but had a set back after playing back-to-back games on the road over the weekend.)

The Coyotes are coming off a 1-2 loss to the Sabres on Monday, their third straight loss. This puts them in a three-way tie for 2nd in the division with the Sharks and Canucks. But they’ll be celebrating tonight: captain Shane Doan’s 380th goal, which gives him the franchise title.

Jones likely to start for the Sharks.

Update: Smith clears waivers.
