Sharks got Monday off after back-to-back games over the weekend.

Florida is not the “automatic” two-points for opponents it once was.  Roberto Luongo is now patrolling the net for the jungle cats and there’s a new swagger and pride in Sunrise.

Pashelka reporting defense and line changes for the Sharks.  Stalock starting.

Late update: Niemi apparent starter.  (No explanation)

Pregame news

Blech, that left a bad taste in the mouth.

Giving up 3 goals in the first was a deficit the Sharks could not overcome, even with a 4 minute power play.

Time to put it away,  get some rest, and travel to Florida.  Panthers up on Tuesday.

Update:  First goal (of career) taken away from van Riemsdyk.

Sharks face the rested Blackhawks in a back-to-back situation (as usual?).

Guessing Niemi will get the start after Stalock played Saturday.  Crawford seems to be the starter for Chicago.

Chicago has played a bit sloppy of late (4-5-1 in last 10) and dropped their last game, and lost Patrick Sharp (for weeks) to injury.

Update from Saturday:  Stars’ Roussel is scheduled to have hearing Monday for late game actions.

Pregame notes

1 down; 6 to go.
1 down; 6 to go.

Sharks came back from 0-2 and 1-3 deficits to win, scoring four goals in the third.

Joe Thornton broke the tie with former/retired Shark Vincent Damphousse on the all-time scoring list with his empty net insurance goal (1,206th point).  Marleau broke a long goalless drought.  And Burns is becoming a monster offensively, scoring the tying and game-winning goals.

Sharks have to “sleep hard” tonight as they face Chicago tomorrow afternoon.

(While I can empathize with Dallas fans experiencing their 8th loss in a row, considering the Sharks 2nd NHL season, I don’t sympathize.  Yet.  Maybe if they lose 72 games, or 18 in a row.)

Couture interviewed on NHL Tonight (NHL Network) on Arena Cam after game.

Pregame news

Back and forth game, mainly dominated by the team in black, but Sharks denied “puck luck” when the tying goal crossed the line after the final horn sounded.

Miller saved more the 30 shots, while Niemi gave up three goals on 19 shots.

Tyler Kennedy returned to action; had an assist on Sheppard’s goal.

Sharks have their longest break of the season to date — with four full days off between games.  A chance to practice, reconnect with families, before the final (of two) homestand game and heading out on the road for seven (in less than two weeks).

Meanwhile, the Canucks are surprising some pundits with how their season has turned around (after last year’s disaster).  On Tuesday, they’re in Arizona to play the Coyotes before heading to San Jose to play Thursday.  Former Sharks prospect Nick Bonino was acquired in trade this summer and is doing well for the Canucks.

Niemi looks to get the start for the Sharks.

Pregame news

Sharks celebrated Hannan’s 1000th game before the puck drop.  Nice ceremony. But, Hannan was knocked out of the game before the end of the first.

Sharks did not score first, and they got and held a lead in the third.  Hertl broke his goalless drought, and Couture must have been inspired by the Giants to bat in the game winning goal from a bomb from the blueline.

Sharks are coming back from a (relatively) short 3-game road trip, where they earned 5 of 6 points.  But they’re hungry for more.  They had the day off Friday/Halloween (so perhaps there will be some tweets of some of the costumes they’re having fun with). (As of Thursday night, the Sharks were one of two teams in the league who have played 12 games.) They’ll get a bit of a break with this game Saturday, and then time of practice before their next game on Thursday, and then heading back on the road (for seven games!). They lead the league in goals against in the third period, so that is definitely something to work on. (And overcome the TWO denied goals from incidental goalie contact.)

Islanders are 30th in PK, but are sitting 2nd in the Metropolitan division.

Sharks lost in a shootout when visiting the Islanders a couple of weeks ago.

It’ll be Tomas Hertl’s 50th NHL game. But he’ll be playing on the bottom 6.

Niemi scheduled to start for the Sharks (3rd in a row).

Sharks had a 3-1 lead, but the Wild came back to tie it 3-3.  And the Sharks lost in the shootout.

Goodrow made his NHL debut. Mueller scored his first goal.  Thornton’s goal tied him with Damphousse on all-time points list.
