Note: This game starts at 4pm PT.

Sharks again lost at home after giving up the first goal, falling to 5-12 at home (worst in the league).  There was a strong push in the third that nearly tied it, but Mzarek wasn’t letting anything through after Ward’s goal.  Frustrations even boiled over after the game.  They are still looking for their first win of 2016.

Sharks recalled Tierney on Friday; Zubrus may miss Saturday’s game.  DeBoer mixed up the lines at Friday’s practice, looking for more offense.

Sharks are giving away a Ricci mini locker at the game.

If the Sharks lose Saturday and Edmonton wins, they’ll be at the bottom of the division standings (and conference, league). The Sharks do have games in hand on the other teams; but will/can they win to take advantage of that?

Maple Leafs, under head coach Babcock, lost to the Kings on Thursday, so will be looking for a second win in California Saturday night/afternoon to salvage their Golden State swing. Bernier starting for Leafs.

Who will start for the Sharks?  Put Stalock in to give him some rhythm to add to his recent two wins in the AHL or give Jones another start after giving up two in Thursday’s game?  (With back-to-backs on the road Monday and Tuesday, it may be that both will get one of those games as starter.)

Sharks played a physical style that the Canadiens were not able to handle.  Scoring three straight, they chased Tokarski from the net in the middle of the game.

Now on to the English speaking center of hockey in Canada, Toronto.

Jones vs Sparks.  Hertl is expected back in the lineup; Braun missed morning skate but is expected to play.

Joe Thornton notched his 900th career assist.

And the Sharks played with enough desperation to make the Maple Leafs look like a junior team playing against them.

Hope continues.

Epic trip continues.  Now in Toronto. Sharks became the first NHL team to practice in the old Maple Leaf Gardens since the Leafs moved to ACC.

AHL Worcester signs Daniel Ciampini from Union College to an ATO. (This could be a feeling out on both sides in advance of NHL deal, or a NHL deal is in the works for next season, and this is a chance for him to play this spring in a “pro” environment.)

On Tuesday, the Maple Leafs were officially eliminated from playoff contention. The Sharks still have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, but 7% is not a big chance.

Toronto has not beat the Sharks on home ice since 2002.

Not a dominant game, but the Sharks pulled it out.  Leafs have definitely improved the defensive side of their game.

Leafs are up next. On Monday, they faced the Kings (0-2 loss); Wednesday, the Ducks (Bernier started 4th straight; 0-4 loss). So, the Sharks are the rested team.

With the Leafs and Flames on the schedule for Thursday and Saturday, many of the players dads are staying around for these two games.

On Wednesday, the Epix cameras were again in SJ (mainly one-on-one interviews). They’ll be back next week for the 1/21 game against the Kings, and sticking around after the ASG break until the Stadium Series game.  (First episode, of four, scheduled to debut 2/3 7pm PT.)

Sounds like Bernier may get his fifth straight start for the Leafs.  My guess on the Sharks starter is Niemi (again).

Sharks are trying to avoid fourth straight home loss as they begin seven game home stand (spanning ASG). Leafs may be just looking for some consistency (and not a shutout).

Still unclear on Leafs’ starter as they skipped morning skate.  Check twitter feeds for update.
