Sharks played (arguably) their best game of the season against the Capitals. The Sharks took the lead in the first, got into penalty trouble in the 2nd (Caps opened it scoring a 5-on-3 PPG 81 seconds in), but kept it tied (2-2) at the end of 40 minutes.  The Sharks shut it down in the 3rd, scored three goals, and only allowed the Caps four shots. Ovechkin was limited to 2 SOG.

Boston flew to San Jose after beating the Islanders 3-1 on Saturday.  They are starting a four-game road trip against the three California teams before heading to NYC to face the Rangers before they return to their friendly confines of the TD Boston Garden. On Monday they recalled F Vatrano (emergency); and the rest of the AHL rejoices.

Reimer is scheduled to start for the Sharks. Wingels sounds ready to get back in the lineup, but DeBoer is reluctant to make a change after Saturday’s win.

Whew.  Sharks won for only the SECOND time in Buffalo.  In OT.  Sigh.

And great to have back-to-back wins (for the first time since the first four games of the season).  Sorry McGinn and Gorges – Sharks won the bragging rights.

Now to continue to notch the wins and increase the points, climbing the division standings.

Next up, the Boston Bruins.

Pastrnak is out with a broken foot.

On Monday, DeBoer indicated that Jones would be starting tonight.

(Dainius Zubrus has signed a PTO and is practicing with team.  Expected to be around for a week before the team makes a decision to sign him or release him.)

141204 – postgame Bruins @ Sharks

Took a friend to the game (her first hockey game) and we both had a great time.

First period was the worst, with the Bruins leading 2-0 at the end, but the Sharks ROARED back to score FOUR in the second, and three more in the third.

Couture was cleared to play and did well.  Three Sharks had two goals (and a chance for each to notch a hat trick).

Sharks had an optional practice on Wednesday.  Grosenick and Kenndey were the only injured players who participated. Still unclear if Couture will be available to play the game.

Sharks looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Niemi starting; Kennedy activated from IR. Couture has one more test to pass before he can be considered available for tonight’s game.

Boston lost to the Kings on Tuesday, in a shutout.  A couple of their key players are on the shelf with injuries.

Pregame notes

Too long a road trip? Did the team just go through the motions to finish up the trip and get home?

There were leads traded, multiple times, but the Sharks could not score on a late double minor power play instead giving up an empty net short handed goal.

141021 – Sharks @ Bruins 4pm PT

(Will be writing about trip to NYI, NJD, NYR in the future, but for now, back to the games)

Sharks are wrapping up their first long road trip of the season.  (They’ll have Wednesday off before home game on Thursday.) So far 2-1-1.

Sharks got the day off on Monday after their first back-to-back of the season (with definite lack of energy as the game wore on), and their first regulation loss in Manhattan.

Boston is coming off a shut out win Saturday (career first for Svedberg), but lost Miller with shoulder injury.

Niemi starting for the Sharks.  James Sheppard recalled from conditioning stint in Worcester and will make season debut tonight. McLellan shuffles the lines/pairings; Mueller and McGinn expected to sit tonight.
